What is a "Puppy Mill"?
This is a term that is used to describe a place where large quantities of puppies are produced solely for profit. Often these dogs live in sub-standard conditions and their only purpose in life is to produce more pups. These dogs almost never see a vet and if they do become sick and cannot produce puppies any longer they are killed. The dogs from these type of places are often what is seen in pet stores because reputable breeders do not sell dogs to pet stores. The dogs that are produced here cannot be guaranteed against genetic diseases because their parents were never tested for anything, after all, the less you put into the dogs means a greater profit on the other end, right? Wrong, although there may be a greater financial profit to be made, the health of the dogs suffers and to me that is not worth all the money in the world. Also, dogs from such places often have numerous health issues and that is a greater cost to you, the owner. This situation happens more often than you think were the puppy buyer forks out thousands at an attempt to save the life of the store bought puppy mill pup.
